This book is much more than the continuation of Vicky's and Joe's adventures in Spain but rather an opportunity to fall in love all over again with an amazing cast of characters in a small Spanish village.I really enjoyed getting to "meet" the newest members of the village and even more to find that those I had come to care about (these are real people not fictional characters) were still alive and well even though aging.I am a dog, horse and now alpaca person but through the eyes of this author I have even come to respect chickens (I was attacked by a goose as a kid and none to fond of birds) and the tenacity and spirit of cats.I had more opportunity to absorb both the Spanish countryside as well everyday life of El Hoyo. I have to admit to some bouts of jealousy at the wonderful home that Joe and Vicky have fashioned out of crumbling walls and centuries old construction.PS...sure am glad Amazon lets me edit.....I have forgotten to mention that both this book and the original in the series, are also wonderful cookbooks. Having spent a big chunk of my childhood and young adulthood I am a real fan of Spanish cooking. Not only is Spanish cooking very different from Mexican cooking it is also different between regions in Spain. I have already made several of these dishes and they are easy, delicious and a great example of southern Spanish cooking.I look forward to the next book in this series which promises to be quite different as it involves a year in Bahrain and the search for camels....but I fervently hope that the author will again take up pencil and paper and continue this amazing story of life in Spain. How nice to see that Victoria and Joe continued to enjoy their quiet life in their sleepy tiny town in Catalonia. Well, sometimes not so quiet because new neighbors with a lot of children move in and an apartment complex is constructed nearby. Life is good with their chickens, feral and not so feral cats, quirky locals, and their rooftop terrace that allows them to spy on neighbors.The Tweads continue to worry about finances and Joe's pension doesn't go as far as they hoped. This leads to a very surprising book ending.It was fun catching-up with the Vicky and Joe and I went right on to the next book in the series.I read this on my Kindle.
